US News & World Report, Washington Monthly raises Montclair in latest rankings

Montclair State University has risen in the latest higher education rankings from both US News & World Report and Washington Monthly.

Montclair State University’s reputation is growing, and the leading higher education rankings are noted.

Montclair has received two of the top 100 rankings – including seventh in the world in a critical research scale – in US News & World Report2022 “Top Global Universities” rankings, which highlights 2,000 institutions worldwide.

The US news The rankings show the university’s growing research footprint and global impact. Having climbed to an R2 designated public research university, Montclair ranked seventh in the world in the “standard citation effect” (the average number of times a research paper is cited in other work) and 93rd in the percentage of papers that are among the Top 1% cited in their respective fields. Overall, the university moved up 159 places to 1,008 in the 2022 rankings.

Montclair is also ranked #90 in the country out of more than 1,500 institutions in Washington Monthly 2022 “College Directory and Rankings,” which highlights institutions that demonstrate excellence in social mobility, research, and community and national service. The university is one of only four New Jersey public institutions to feature in the top 100 universities in the National University Rankings.
