SC Higher Education spends $5 million on nurses’ salaries – ABC Columbia

The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (CHE) has announced plans to spend $5 million on nursing staff salaries.

Columbia, South Carolina (WOLO) – The South Carolina Higher Education Commission (CHE) has announced plans to spend $5 million on nursing staff salaries.

Full-time and part-time nursing faculty staff at public universities and colleges and technical colleges with accredited nursing programs are eligible for supplemental funds.

This initiative is part of South Carolina’s efforts to address the nursing shortage. CHE says that the pay gap between college nursing programs and higher-paying clinical nursing jobs is one known barrier to nursing education.

In a press release, officials said the funding is intended to encourage interest in nursing jobs.

CHE officials say the institutions that will receive the funding have been notified by email in September.
